PURPOSE
This online activity will identify and explore issues related to the practice of pediatric medicine in primary care and subspecialty settings.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Primary care physicians, pediatric subspecialists, and other health care professionals who provide care for pediatric patients should participate in this activity.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Recognize unique elements of the pre-participation sports physical, including anticipatory guidance for concussions, sudden cardiac death and the female athlete triad.
- Develop an effective plan for pre-participation concussion education and returning student athletes to play following a head injury.
- Determine which student athletes need EKG screening and/or cardiology consultation prior to sports participation.
- Understand the interrelationship of the three cardinal components of the female athlete triad—disordered eating, amenorrhea and osteoporosis.
- Formulate a strategy for screening student athletes and increasing family awareness of the female athlete triad.
